After spending well over a year writing the material, the band have just finished the studio sessions for the album. ”The album is our most varied bunch of songs yet. We have lots of new exciting ideas and approaches. I think it's easily the most accessible stuff we've ever done. Not that we tried to pull any weird stunts to get hits, but I just feel there's something in these songs that could connect with people pretty well, says the band's singer Janne Pajari. The band recorded the album on their own in a countryside cabin in Suodenniemi, Finland, with Australian Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Helmet) taking care of the mixing and mastering. ”After our first record we almost made an oath to never ever self-produce again. But you know what... this time it actually worked well. This record takes us back to the idea that it's ok to do different kinds of songs... and it's certainly the first time we've pulled off a record that sounds cohesive although there is a bit of experimentation going on... think Faith No More's King For A Day...Fool For A Lifetime, or the diversity of the old Black Sabbath records. Think R.E.M. in a particularly bad mood. Think Nirvana trying to play Type O Negative covers. Sort of an ‘anything goes’ approach going on, but there's the overall mood keeping it all together", says the band. ”It's been a while since the last one came out, time goes by surprisingly fast. At some point during the writing we realised that the material we had was not up to par, so we wrote a lot more. Also, we were not seeing eye to eye with our label on a couple of things, so we decided do the record on our own, which of course took a bit of time to set up.” The band's previous album Sleepwalkers was released in 2007 in Finland (by GBFam Records) and in Europe (Dockyard1). After the release Day Eleven has played over 70 shows in Finland and Germany. TIEDOTE: UUSI ALBUMI KAUPOISSA 20.1.2010 Kotimainen alternativerock-ryhmä Day Eleven on saanut valmiiksi kolmannen albuminsa. Matador-nimeä kantava levy julkaistaan Suomessa 20.1.2010. Pitkän biisinkirjoitusprosessin läpikäynyt bändi päätyi tekemään uuden levynsä ilman ulkopuolista tuottajaa ja julkaisemaan sen perustamansa levy-yhtiön kautta. Levy äänitettiin pääosin maaseudun rauhassa Suodenniemellä, entisen kyläkoulun tiloissa. Miksauksesta vastasi Australian rock-kentässä vahvaa mainetta nauttiva Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Helmet). - Musiikillisesti tämä on paluu bändimme juurille siinä mielessä, että mukana on tosi erilaisia kappaleita, ja meidän akustista puolta on tuotu myös esille, sanoo laulaja Janne Pajari. - Kakkosalbumimme rajattu hiekkalaatikko oli vastareaktio debyytin tyylipoukkoiluun. Tällä kertaa päätimme, ettemme käy rajoittamaan ja jäätämään vaan otimme kaikki aseet käyttöön. Nyt miehet vievät tyyliä eikä tyyli miehiä. Vaikutepuolella tavoitteenamme on ollut ammentaa diggaamiemme bändien asenteesta, eikä vain pölliä niiltä melodioita ja riffejä. Asenne- ja ilmaisupuolella esim. Faith No More, vanha Black Sabbath ja vaikkapa Bowie monipuolisuudessaan lämmittävät reilusti. - Jos tähän pitäisi kehittää joku ’panostettiin orgaanisuuteen’ tai ’ääripäät levenivät’ -tyyppinen kuvailu, niin kyllä se tämän levyn kohdalla taitaa olla vaan biisien taso. Oli aikaa tehdä paljon materiaalia ja myös aikaa tehdä sen suhteen oikeita valintoja. Musa itsessään ei välttämättä ole sen hevimpää tai kevyempää kuin aiemmin, mutta kappaleissa ja koko levyssä on aivan uudenlaista voimaa ja meininkiä. - Vaikka edellislevystä onkin jo aikaa, niin emme ole laiskotelleet paria kuukautta lukuun ottamatta. Rupesimme säveltämään ja säheltämään vuoden 2008 alussa toivoen kovasti, että levy tulisi vielä samana vuonna ulos. Studiokin oli jo buukattu erään tuottajan kanssa, mutta sitten homma tökkäsi silloisen levylafkan kanssa taloudellisiin ja taiteellisiin erimielisyyksiin. Ajattelimme sitten, että hoidetaan koko paska itse. Saapahan tehdä asiansa kuten parhaaksi näkee ja tietää ketä syyttää, jos ei hommat rullaa. Vastuu ja vapaus johtivat yhdessä siihen, että nyt olivat näyttämisenhalu ja motivaatio kohdillaan. Edellinen Day Eleven -albumi, ruotsalaistuottaja Jens Bogrenin johdolla tehty Sleepwalkers, julkaistiin keväällä 2007 Suomessa (GBfam Records) ja myöhemmin koko Euroopassa (Dockyard1). Levyn julkaisun jälkeen yhtye on kiertänyt mm. Suomessa ja Saksassa noin seitsemänkymmenen keikan verran. Välillä helkkää mandoliini, välillä tuplabasarit, mutta biisit on kuitenkin tiiviimpiä ja iskevämpiä kuin aiemmin”, bändin laulaja Janne Pajari sanoo. ”Se voisi olla vähän niin kuin Faith No Moren tai vanhan Black Sabbathin monipuolisuutta. Tai erittäinen huonotuulinen R.E.M. Tai Nirvana soittamassa Type O Negative -covereita. Anything goes -asenteella, mutta kuitenkin niin että levyn biisejä sitoo tietty yhteinen tunnelma”.
